Downtown Akron is rich with history, unique architecture, and hidden gems waiting to be captured. Yet, we often pass by without truly seeing them.

On this guided walk, we'll train our "photographer's eye" to uncover the beauty in everyday surroundings. We'll explore composition, focus, and lens choices to help you see the world in a new way.

After our walk, we'll gather for coffee and conversation (optional), sharing our experiences and insights from the day. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced photographer, this is a great opportunity to refine your skills and connect with fellow creatives!

Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

Brad was very patient. He presented shutter speed, aperture and depth of field f-stops and ISO in a way that I finally understood them. The class size was small which made for very personal instruction. Hands on assignments during the class helped to reinforce the concepts. I am very pleased that I chose this class.

Instructor (Brad?) was excellent. My teen daughter was in the class and I stayed to keep her company/observe. Brad was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He was clear in his teaching and allowed the students opportunities to practice the skills he introduced. He was very willing to answer questions and to help students practice skills to get them closer to their specific goals. I'd definitely bring my daughter to another class!

    Marc Braun
Marc Braun has a storied photography career starting in fine arts. He was accepted in national juried festivals and shows including the Boston Mills Art Festival (the first photographer accepted), and the former Cleveland Art Museum May Show. When he opened his studio Marc specialized in product, advertising, editorial, and location, including architecture, and photography. He won national awards in all areas. Marc was the first national studio to become all-digital, expanding his studio to a seven-person staff. Ultimately, deciding he preferred being a shooter to managing others, Marc moved on to new adventures. He co-wrote the book How to Learn Digital Photography in a Weekend with his son Bradley Braun. For over 20 years, he worked with a team to produce international medical educational conferences. Marc advanced the conferences from slide show presentations to high-end digital ones and eventually to providing the conference online. Also, he mastered location photography with an iPhone and mastered 360-degree product photography.
Now semi-retired Marc continues his work mainly in 360-degree product and landscape photography. Throughout his career art directors and other clients appreciated his technical skills, creativity, and ability to work without direction. His work has graced the covers of magazines, found in places like annual reports, product catalogs, and advertisements, His works hang on the walls of many homes and businesses. Marc has had a consummate career in the medium he cherishes. He
considers himself to be one of the lucky ones who has enjoyed a lifetime in a job he loves.

Had just taken a shot of the goose with one gosling under it's wing, but I didn't quite make out the gosling until I was showing my son the image. I got excited to see the gosling and told my son, "I'm gonna grab a few more shots before we leave. There was a slight mound that I perched on to get a little higher to get past the reeds for a clear shot. It seemed like mother goose said, "Ok I'll show you something so you can get your shot." Then she lifted her wing to reveal the 4 goslings. I

This was taken with the sun on the horizon. I put a medium telephoto lens on my Nikon F1, then pressed the shutter every time a rider passed between me and the sun. After about a dozen tries, I got this shot. Kodak Pan-X film was slow enough to give me a nice exposure with very fine grain.

We had just finished a trip along the Road to Hana, and Ho'okipa Park is on the way back. We stopped to see if there were any Green Sea Turtles were sunning on the beach. Unfortunately, there were not but we were rewarded with great views of North Maui and the West Maui Mountains. I saw the United Airlines jet in the middle of this picture approaching the runway at Kahului with the mountains behind it and liked how it demonstrated the scale of the scene.

My wife loves sea turtles, and we heard that Ho'okipa park on Maui often has a lot of them. We went, but there were no turtles. I did see this fisherman on an outcropping of volcanic rock and was able to catch him (no pun intended) casting his line. This is on the windward side of the island so the waves in the ocean are pretty high. Also, the wind was blowing mist off the whitecaps so it made and interesting backdrop.

My wife and I did a whale watching tour with the Pacific Whale Foundation this January. It was a great experience because the whales were very active that morning. In this picture the whale had his tail in a classic pose. Fortunately, I was able to get a good picture of it!

I was walking around the rocks at sunset, enjoying the clouds, and thinking I had better get to shelter as that rain burst was heading my way. The sun suddenly highlighted the underside of the rain cloud, and I managed a few shots.I also got rained on very soon afterwards!Canon R6M2 with kit lens 24-105mm.ISO 2000, 24mm, f9.0, 1/1000s. The Old Oak Tree, 2025.This is one of my favorite trees. It is situated alone in a huge field on a little farm near where I live. Every time I see it and the little rope swing that hangs from it, it just fills me with a sense of peace and tranquility. I wanted to portray that in this minimalist, high key version of it.
