ABOUT AKRON

Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations around Akron.

New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next one is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Akron Photography Facebook Group here to share your photos after the session.

We ask that everyone attending a meetup follows social distancing guidelines:

Stay home if you have any symptoms of COVID.
Keep 6 feet away from others.
Wear a suitable face mask or show a valid vaccination card indicating that you are vaccinated.
Don't make unnecessary physical contact with others.

I attended this event to learn more about to basic’s of how to use my camera’s manual setting, the course provided me knowledge on not only how to operate my camera, but how to get a better image using Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO. The course and instructor Gram were outstanding and really helped me learn the skill’s needed to begin taking better images. I would highly recommend this course to new photographers.

I thought this class was great! I've been looking around for about a year to find a face-to-face hands on basic class for my camera and I found it! Graham was very thorough, patient and knowledgeable.

INSTRUCTORS
Lisa Scalfaro
Lisa has been a photojournalist for the past 16 years at Portage County's daily newspaper, Record-Courier. During that time, in addition to news and sports photography for the community, she has also done weddings, family portraits, newborn photo shoots and more. Favorite photography, are courtroom events, sports and features, but most of her photos are of her nieces and nephews! When she's at home, her time is spent playing fetch with her insane cat, Doug.
Timothy McCarthy
Timothy "TMac" McCarty began his photography journey as an "active" 9-year-old with his Grandfather's inherited Nikon F camera and "nifty 50" lens around his neck in the "BD" photography period - Before Digital. And thus began a life of camera nerd-om that lead to his first career traveling the world as an Emmy award-winning network television camera operator shooting Golf, the Olympics and several Super Bowls. In 2002 after 20-years as a TV gypsy, McCarty went back to school and got his masters and teaching certification and has been teaching high school and college students the wonders and magic of manual photography for digital stills and video. His current teacher side hustle is...you guessed it...photography! Favorite things to shoot? Birds, beaches and sports.
